Cues & Tattoos 2018 Workshops
Friday April 6th, 2018, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm- Balkan Musicality for Dancers, with Moria Chappell and Bagoas
A strong sense of musicality can elevate a good dance performance to a great performance, yet it is a quality that can be ambiguous and difficult to define. The goal of this workshop is to demystify the subject and make it accessible, specifically through the lens of music from the Balkans. The first half of the workshop will be a example lecture, and August will play and explain selected music and identify Balkan styles and elements. The second half of the workshop focuses on practical application, as Moria Chappell and Bagoas will take turns teaching combinations set to contemporary songs from the Balkans. In short, we will start with an abstract concept, dig into some fascinating music, and end with dancing to Serbian Dancehall, and Romanian Reggaeton, and Romani folk-hop!
This workshop is open to all experience levels.
In addition August will provide music accompaniment for the Tunisian Fusion workshop with Moria Chappell and the Chrysalides and Butterflies class with Bagoas. Don’t miss these opportunities to learn and dance with live music!
